1,2 Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Sree Buddha College Of Engineering Abstract—This paper highlights the performance of a five level inverter fed ac drive system. The presence of harmonics in the output voltage and current waveforms of traditional voltage source inverter (VSI) causes significant amount of energy loss. Multilevel inverters can reduce this harmonic content in the output waveforms and this leads to improved performance of the drive system. In this paper the simulation of a five level diode clamped inverter fed induction motor at no load and on load condition is presented. The control pulses for the five level inverter is generated using sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM). The total harmonic distortion (THD) in the output voltage is analyzed using FFT analysis. The simulation results are validated using MATLAB/ Simulink software. Keywords— Multilevel inverter, induction motor, harmonics, SPWM, MATLAB software.
